Desde el Ayuntamiento de Nigüelas consideramos que conocer los antecedentes de cada actuación es fundamental para comprender la situación actual. En ese sentido, coincidimos en la importancia de revisar la historia de este expediente.
La rotura de la cuesta del río, de la que tanto se ha hablado en los últimos meses, no es un problema reciente. Existen antecedentes documentados de numerosas actuaciones realizadas por distintos equipos de gobierno a lo largo de los años. Asimismo, nos consta que el material necesario para su reparación, concretamente las tuberías, había sido adquirido y permanecía almacenado.
Resulta especialmente relevante recordar que ya existía un estudio técnico o auditoría del servicio de abastecimiento de agua de Nigüelas, elaborado en marzo de 2021, en el que se analizaba el estado de la red y se ponían de manifiesto las deficiencias existentes, así como la necesidad de acometer actuaciones para evitar averías y mejorar el servicio. Por tanto, la situación era conocida durante el anterior mandato, lo que evidencia que no se trataba de un problema sobrevenido ni imprevisible.
En relación con este asunto, existía además una ayuda concedida por la Diputación Provincial dentro del Ciclo Integral del Agua, aprobada el 27 de abril de 2023. Nos alegra comprobar que dicha subvención haya sido mencionada públicamente por el Grupo Municipal Socialista en su publicación del 28 de junio de 2026.
Este equipo de gobierno comparte plenamente la necesidad de apoyar a los vecinos afectados. No obstante, si por cualquier circunstancia no fue posible ejecutar las actuaciones correspondientes durante el mandato anterior, entendemos que habría sido conveniente trasladar esta información al equipo de gobierno entrante durante el proceso de relevo y puesto que esta actuación tal y como manifiestan estaba ya contemplada y era urgente su ejecución por el Grupo Municipal Socialista.
Lamentablemente, esta situación no es un caso aislado. A la pérdida de esta subvención se suman otras ayudas que tampoco llegaron a ejecutarse, entre ellas las correspondientes a Torrecilla, Camino Bajo, la instalación fotovoltaica del pozo y el colegio infantil, alcanzando un importe conjunto superior a 170.000 euros.
Desde este Ayuntamiento entendemos que gobernar implica tomar decisiones y actuar sobre los problemas conocidos. Cuando se dispone de informes técnicos que alertan del estado de una infraestructura y, además, existen oportunidades de financiación para intervenir, es razonable esperar que se impulsen las actuaciones necesarias en beneficio del municipio.
Nuestro compromiso es seguir trabajando con responsabilidad, transparencia y rigor para recuperar oportunidades de financiación, ejecutar las inversiones necesarias y ofrecer a los vecinos de Nigüelas la información que merecen.
A estas fechas dado que el acceso por la Quinta ha sido restablecido por el Ayuntamiento de Lecrin, se puede proceder a los trabajos que necesitaba la cuesta del río desviando el tráfico por la Quinta, y de igual manera se solucionará como los más de 90 cortes de agua estivales que sufría nuestro pueblo anualmente.
Como el primer día, seguimos trabajando por y para todos los ciudadanos.
STATEMENT FROM THE AYUNTAMIENTO OF NIGÜELAS
At the Ayuntamiento of Nigüelas, we believe that understanding the background to every issue is essential in order to understand the current situation. In that respect, we agree that it is important to review the history of this matter.
The damage to Cuesta del Río, which has been widely discussed in recent months, is not a new problem. There are documented records of numerous works carried out by different local government teams over the years. We also understand that the materials required for its repair, specifically the replacement pipes, had already been purchased and were being stored.
It is particularly important to remember that a technical study, or audit, of Nigüelas’ water supply system had already been carried out in March 2021. This report assessed the condition of the network, highlighted its deficiencies, and identified the need for improvement works to prevent future failures and enhance the service. The situation was therefore already known during the previous term of office, demonstrating that this was neither an unforeseen nor an unexpected problem.
In addition, funding had already been approved by the Provincial Council under the Integrated Water Cycle Programme on 27 April 2023. We are pleased to see that this grant was publicly referred to by the Socialist Municipal Group in its publication of 28 June 2026.
This government team fully shares the need to support the residents affected. However, if, for whatever reason, it was not possible to carry out the planned works during the previous term of office, we believe that this information should have been formally passed on to the incoming administration during the handover process, particularly as the Socialist Municipal Group itself has stated that these works had already been planned and were considered urgent.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. In addition to the loss of this grant, other funding opportunities also went unexecuted, including those relating to Torrecilla, Camino Bajo, the photovoltaic installation at the municipal well, and the nursery school, representing a combined value of more than €170,000.
This Town Hall believes that governing means making decisions and taking action on known problems. When technical reports identify the deterioration of an infrastructure and funding opportunities already exist to address it, it is reasonable to expect that the necessary works will be carried out for the benefit of the municipality.
Our commitment is to continue working responsibly, transparently and diligently to secure new funding opportunities, carry out the necessary investments and provide the residents of Nigüelas with the information they deserve.
Now that access via La Quinta has been restored by Lecrín Town Hall, it is possible to undertake the works required on Cuesta del Río by diverting traffic through La Quinta. These works will also help resolve the more than 90 water supply interruptions that our village experienced each summer.
Just as we have done since day one, we continue to work for and on behalf of all citizens.
